The Challenge
At the rehabilitation center in Hadassa hospital the physiotherapists use whatever they can to help the patients in their care. When we arrived the way they were exercising the patients reaching abilities was with bags of rice that the patient had to put in to a bowl on a chair in front of them.
They asked us to design a new way to help their patients that was:

prototyping
Standing upright: Before weights are put in
Toppled over: after weights are put in
The Process
We started off with a puzzle-like game that used pieces with various holds to fill up the board.
The user had to reach to the furthest side of the board as well as the closest to finish the puzzle and the puzzle could have different difficulties. After a quick mock-up and and user testing we understood that the Puzzle idea was too complicated and the cognitive challenge wasn't relevant in this situation.
Our next idea was a scale which had visual feedback for putting enough weight on one side. This, together with blocks which had all sorts of holds and 3 different weights made it so progress could be measured. The concept was accepted and a simple prototype was made.
In an attempt to create playfulness and give feedback for success, we switched the visual feedback idea to a full experience in which the tower topples over when enough weight is put in.
